The client understanding links and seo in general is my biggest headache. Even after a deep explanation, 2 months down the line they come back and say they don’t get it! Is it just me ???

Good point – that would also expose any “pet” projects that may be going and that someone might be reluctant to relinquish control of. I increasingly find that problems in implementing an seo project come from some hobbyist within the company that decided to “help out” because they heard that putting 5000 keywords in a footer would get them to #1 for a competitive term.

Another useful question you might ask = What are the current online activities of company X?

So you can quickly figure out:
- What domains do they run.
- How to integrate existing online activities and your link building campaign.

@Wiep – Definitely agree about the frustration issue. I often feel that the SEO business focuses on the technical or creative side of things and forgets that it’s still a business like any other to our clients. Without good, clear communication you simply can’t be a reputable vendor to anyone. Off m y soap box now.

@Jonathan – That’s definitely a good question to ask!

@Nick – Exactly, only when you fully understand what the company is, does and stands for, you can be as efficient as possible.

@Wayne – I’ve dealt with the “Oops, forgot to mention that…”-client numerous times as well. Trying to create such a “community” two-way street can reduce the amount of frustrations like that drastically.
