I have a slightly different take on the sponsorship angle that I’m testing and I think could work well. I should explain we are also sponsoring this charity by taking part in the event, but this is a new angle that could work for any charity and a lot of situations.

In Dublin we have a charity that organizes the four peaks challenge every year (highest mountain in each of the four provinces in Ireland over 3 days). Apart from the four mountains there is about 1500km to be driven.

I created a .gpx file that can be imported onto pretty much any GPS unit with the major way points of the challenge. Creating these files is very easy and will be a great tool for the teams competing and will more than likely give us traffic and links.

We as internet savvy marketers have the tools these charities probably don’t have to create useful content that can be used to help them and get links. The file can be downloaded by anybody from our site.

@Garrett; Hmm, will have to devote a post to that question later on. In case of the example you pulled up, it would be more of a networking-kind of chat, but questions to ask (or search queries to use) to reveal link opportunities in general could use little more in depth post.

@Gab; Demographic link building sure is a good option. Most display advertising publishers can provide this info as well. Your new design looks good, btw, much cleaner ;)

Wiep, it appears we think alike re: content network. I’d take the thing one step further and say that it can help inform your link development on a demographic basis.
